Why are our computers so slow, and can an MSP actually fix that?

'Everything is slow' costs more than any single outage — a few minutes lost per employee per hour, silently, forever. The causes are usually specific and diagnosable: machines still running on spinning hard drives instead of SSDs (the single biggest fix in modern IT), not enough memory for today's browser-and-Teams workload, accumulated startup programs and vendor bloatware, aging hardware past its five-year useful life — or occasionally something that matters more, like crypto-mining malware.

A managed provider approaches it with data rather than guesswork: monitoring shows which machines run hot on CPU, memory, or disk, and why. Cheap fixes get made (SSD and RAM upgrades pay for themselves in weeks), bloat gets removed centrally, and genuinely tired machines get a planned replacement schedule instead of the panic-buy-after-death cycle.

The question to ask if your current provider shrugs at slowness: 'Which of our machines are below spec, and what's the plan?' If nobody can answer, nobody's looking.
