ManagedITAsheville answers for business owners · by Asheville Computer Company

We use Zoho for our business email. Is that good enough?

Short answer: Our honest answer is no. Zoho is inexpensive and functional, but for business email we recommend Microsoft 365 first, or Google Workspace, for stronger security, better protection against phishing, proper backup options, and compatibility with the tools your business already uses.

Zoho Mail is not a scam or a broken product. It is inexpensive, it sends and receives email, and for a solo operation it can be fine. But when we evaluate email for a business, the bar is higher than "does mail arrive," and that is where we stop recommending it.

Business email today is the front door for attacks and the system of record for your company. That means you want serious, well-supported security: strong multi-factor authentication, advanced phishing and spam filtering, alerting on suspicious sign-ins, and fine-grained admin control over who can access what. Microsoft 365 leads here, and Google Workspace is a solid second. The security ecosystem around both, including the backup tools, monitoring tools, and compliance features that MSPs and cyber insurers work with, is simply deeper than what is available around Zoho.

There is also the compatibility question. Most businesses live in Word, Excel, and Outlook, and Microsoft 365 bundles business email with those apps, OneDrive file storage, SharePoint, and Teams for roughly the cost of a lunch per user per month. You end up consolidating tools you are probably already paying for separately.

If you are on Zoho today, the good news is that migrating email to Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace is routine work for an MSP: mail, contacts, and calendars move over, your domain stays the same, and the outside world never notices. If your email matters to your business, it is one of the highest-value upgrades you can make.
